How to use a Wi-Fi QR code

  1. Type the network name (SSID) exactly, including upper and lower case.
  2. Enter the password and pick the security type. Most routers today use WPA, WPA2 or WPA3.
  3. Press "Print Wi-Fi card" to print a card with the code, the network name and the password.

Which phones can read it?

iPhones read Wi-Fi codes with the built-in Camera app since iOS 11. Most Android phones read them with the camera or with the QR button on the Wi-Fi settings screen. The code holds a standard string in the form WIFI:T:WPA;S:network;P:password;;.

If you change the password, make a new code. A separate guest network lets you keep the code for longer and keeps your main network safer.

FAQ

Is my password stored anywhere?
No. The code is generated inside your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere.
The phone scans the code but does not connect.
Check the exact spelling and case of the network name and the security type. Older devices may not see 5 GHz-only networks.
Does it work with hidden networks?
Yes. Tick "Hidden network" and the code includes H:true so phones can join a hidden SSID.
